With a kind invitation from High Fell Events, I set off to photograph the cyclists taking part in the Breamish Behemoth in 2015. My first sporting event and one that I thoroughly enjoyed, I hoped there would be more. I didn't have to wait long, a boggy Cleveland Way at Saltburn to photograph trail runners, then it snowed and I still thoroughly enjoyed it!
There have been many more since, with some occasional sunshine and I appear to have gravitated towards trail running and cross country cycling events, gaining a great deal of creative experience. I enjoy a good sportive as I still cycle myself, but mainly to get about with my camera these days. My experience of road running, duathlons and triathlons has increased greatly as I continue to work as part of a team for various event and media companies.
About Event Photography
I cater for both small and large scale events and approach every one with the same degree of care and attention to detail. I like to go that extra mile, often several, just to be in the right place at the right time to capture images that say a certain something about the event, about all the competitors and people involved, the location and what made that day just a bit special.
Planning and preparation are key elements for me. If possible, I always love to visit and walk the route before the event. I always enjoy being out and about and seldom need an excuse, but one always helps. I utilise many online resources from maps and sun calculators to previous events and social media. There are certain factors, like the weather, that I can't really plan for. I just hope for sunshine and pack my waterproofs.
I like to get all the basics in place, where I'll start and finish, will I just work one area or two? Or perhaps devise a route for a roving photo shoot, maybe a bit of both. Once I'm set up, relaxed and ready, I can enjoy my day and take those photo opportunities as they arise. I always have a few ideas for photos I'd like to take, brought from previous events and which I wish to develop, this often leads onto others.
I'm more than happy to discuss the required coverage and services your event deserves and can easily provide a package that meets your expectations. My general rate starts at £150. This includes planning and taking all event photography, processing and uploading print quality images. I can also process images for social media at no extra charge, these are optimized for Facebook.
